For the past 15 years, the North Bay and District Labour Council, along with the Workers Health and Safety Centre, have hosted an Annual Health and Safety Volunteer Activist Dinner. Labour Council President, Henri Giroux, was honoured to present Hannele Ylimaki with the Health and Safety Award, for her dedicated efforts as a health and safety representative at Cassallholme, CUPE local 146. Congratulations Hannele!

The evening featured a lovely meal catered by the good folks at the Best Western and special remarks from Eddie St. Marie, the Northern Ontario Regional Representative for the Canadian Labour of Congress, and Wayne Glibbery, a Northern Region Representative for the Workers Health and Safety Centre. Speaking to over 70 health and safety activists and other labour and union supporters, Wayne stressed the importance of safe work places, and the critical role volunteer Health and Safety reps play on the job, as they maintain important relationships with employers and managers. "Employees and employers must work together to foster relationships that hold workplace safety training in high regard," according to Glibbery, a Health and Safety trainer with over 20 years of experience.

On behalf of the North Bay and District Labour Council, Henri Giroux thanked the volunteer activists for their hard work.
