News release: La Vase Portages Canoe Night coming up Friday, April 8th – hope you can join us.

Brian Back will be our guest speaker for the evening sharing stories from his Ottertooth website and canoeing the Temagami area.

“Brian Back is a dirt-eating, leech-loving, wilderness canoeist. He grew up in North Bay, lived 20 years in the U.S. and is now a tick-dodger in Kingston. He operates Ottertooth.com, which covers Temagami, and wrote the history of Temagami’s Keewaydin Camp, the world’s oldest canoe-trip operator.

"He was the executive director of the Temagami Wilderness Society, in the 1980s Canada's largest single-issue environment group, and served on the boards environment groups on both sides of the border. In the early 1990s, he worked with the Crees of northern Quebec in their successful opposition to the Great Whale River project. Three former premiers of Ontario will cross the street to avoid making eye contact.“

Should be a good dinner with some fun auction items.

Tickets $60 each.
