Earlton April 15, 2015 – Jay Aspin, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming made two announcements today on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of Natural Resources and FedNor and the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development to support an innovative pilot project at Nor-Arc Steel Manufacturers and  an ACFO-Temiskaming’s initiative to assist seniors, respectively.


“As Chair of the Cleantech Caucus in parliament I am aware that innovation is  top priority number for a strong economy,” said MP Jay Aspin. “By assisting Nor-Arc commercialize their new system, communities will gain access to a more efficient waste processing and energy management system resulting in increased growth.”

 

Nor-Arc Steel Fabricators is a North American leader in the production equipment for mining, forestry and the renewable energy industries. A repayable FedNor loan of $482,500 will enable them to develop a pilot-scale waste incineration system that will process local waste and capture the thermal energy it produces.

 

The prototype incineration plant will be capable of processing up to 20,000 tons of residential waste annually and transform it into green energy. The state-of-the-art technology is intended to offer a waste management solution and supplementary energy source for Canadian municipalities with populations less than 100,000

 

The ACFO-Temiskaming program supports organizations for community-based projects that are led or inspired by seniors. The purpose of the program is to allow seniors to participate more fully in their communities to maintain a higher quality of life.

 

“My goal is to ensure seniors in my region have an excellent quality of life,” said MP Jay Aspin. “I am very pleased that ACFO-Temiskaming is working to further enrich programming for local seniors. All seniors should continue to be encouraged to participate in their community as it is programs like this that make that goal achievable.”
