City Council approved a recommendation to enter into an agreement with the Province of Ontario in order to receive funding through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) – Formula Based Component.

In 2015 and 2016 the City received $605,557 in OCIF funding which was used to support infrastructure projects in the Capital Budget.  This year the City has been allocated $1,180,761 through OCIF.

Funding will be used to support core infrastructure projects currently included in the 2017 Capital Budget that would otherwise be borne by the City in their entirety.

Meanwhile, Council received a report on the City’s Water and Sanitary Sewer Operating Budget that anticipated a year-end surplus.

In 2016, the City has realized savings largely due to vacant positions, changes in scheduling, and fewer emergencies like watermain breaks.
