OPP ARREST SUNDRIDGE MAN WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) – On Thursday December 31, 2015 at approximately 5:00 a.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a traffic complaint in the Village of Sundridge.  OPP patrolled the Village and found the vehicle in the ditch at the intersection of High Street and Paget Street.

Police investigated the collision and subsequently arrested the driver, Simon HOLENSKI, 18 of Sundridge Ontario with care or control while impaired, contrary to section 253 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and care or control over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to section 253 (1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Sundridge Ontario.

R.I.D.E. PROGRAM LEADS TO ARREST

(ARMOUR TWP, ON) – On Friday January 1, 2016 at approximately 3:00 p.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Chetwynd Road and Relative Road.

A westbound vehicle approached the R.I.D.E. program and a female driver was subsequently arrested for exceeding the legal limit for alcohol.

OPP arrested and charged Patricia STEELE-THOMPSON, 49 of Armour Township with driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, January 28, 2016 in Sundridge Ontario.

FESTIVE R.I.D.E STATS

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has completed the final week of the Festive R.I.D.E. program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere).  During the festive R.I.D.E. program, officers checked approximately 2140 vehicles in the Almaguin Highlands area and arrested two drivers for alcohol related offences, contrary to the Criminal Code.  Officers as well issued several Provincial offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Almaguin Highlands OPP would like to remind motorist to drive safe, drive sober and even though the festive R.I.D.E. program is over, officers will continue to conduct R.I.D.E. programs throughout the year.
