NORTH BAY, ONTARIO – On Saturday, September 27th the sun came out and so did North Bay residents looking to make a contribution to their local Alzheimer Society. Neddy’s North Bay Hyundai and the Compass Centre for Mental Health and Wellness teamed up to co-host a BBQ and car wash fundraiser at the Hyundai dealership on Trout Lake Road. A hockey stick signed by players on the North Bay Battalion was also auctioned off to raise additional funds. Thanks to staff from both organizations, as well as student volunteers from St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School, the event raised over $560.00 for important programs and support services offered at the Alzheimer Society.

The fundraiser marked the official launch of the Alzheimer Society’s national Coffee Break® fall fundraising campaign in North Bay. Until the end of November, various schools, businesses, health care providers, and other local organizations will be hosting third-party events in support of the Society. All funds raised stay local, and go towards supporting the 1500 people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia in North Bay and area, as well as their families and caregivers who clock millions of hours a year in unpaid care. Demand for services is steadily climbing as the number of Canadians with dementia surges. Today 747,000 Canadians are living with dementia and an estimated 1.4 million will be affected by 2031.

For more information on Coffee Break® and how you can get involved, please call the Alzheimer Society at (705) 495-4342.
