Government money will build 'safer spaces'

13 projects in northern Ontario

The North Bay and Area Community Foundation and MPP Anthony Rota are announced $653,630 in funding to support 13 projects in northern Ontario as part of the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative.

"Through the $60-million Initiative, the Government of Canada, alongside Community Foundations of Canada, is building safer spaces and ensuring a higher quality of life for people across the country, by helping communities adapt to the challenges presented by COVID-19," says a news release.

Local recipients include:

Creative Industries – Downtown Waterfront Public Art - $33,362

Centre Communautaire de Lavigne – Multi-use Park and Playground - $75,000

Trauma Practices for Healthy Communities – Trauma Practice for Rural and Northern Ontario (Kenora, Rainy River, Thunder Bay, Cochrane, Algoma, Sudbury, Timiskaming, Nipissing, Manitoulin and Parry Sound) - $19,689

White Water Gallery – Art Fix – Planting Seeds of Hope - $47,462

Town of Cobalt – Historic Mining Camp Family Park - $70,000
