Girls participation in softball growing

'Beautiful weather for a change'

Lots of youngsters were out in the sunshine this weekend participating in sports, and girl's softball is attracting more players than ever.

Their warm-up tournament was moved up two weeks this year says league president Aaron Northrup to beat exams and get a better turnout, as a lot of the girls are in high school.

"We've got a great turnout, even a team from Sudbury, and beautiful weather for a change," joked Northrup, who on Saturday was also doubling as an umpire.

"We've got a good mix of women now because we amalgamated the women's league so we've got about 200 girls, a lot of them in mini-mites and mites, which is the feeder group. They all seem to be having fun and hopefully, they stay with it."
