A BayToday reader gave us this tip.

She just received a phone call, for yet another scam.

"The company claimed to be doing furnace efficiency inspections for the Government of Ontario's  'Save on Energy' program. I consulted the website and IESO does not call, for the save on energy program.

"Sure would hate for anyone to be taken by this telephone scam, so close to the holidays. The number came up as 'private' on my phone display.  Please let the people of North Bay know."

Meanwhile, another reader, Ross Ayotte sent us this.

"If you can use this info to warn people you're welcome to it. Here is my experience with Supreme Energy.

"At approximately 6 pm April 27 2016, my wife got a call from 613 446 6401 in regards to a hydro rebate they were giving her, and asked if her full name was xxxxxx xxxxxxx and if xxxx xxxxxx also lived there, and if xx xxxxx xx was our address, she said yes. Then they told her someone would be getting back to her about the rebate and she would be getting a call. At approximately 6:10 pm she received a phone call from 613 501 2054 saying someone would be coming by the house at 5:00 pm the next day (she did not invite them) which would be April 28 2016.

"At 5:02 pm April 28 2016 I got a call from Arthur Khan from 613 668 9606, so I asked him how much is our rebate that we are getting back and he tells me $ 650 but he can't find the house… so I gave him the instructions then I called Smiths Falls Police- they told me when he is at the house to phone back which I did.

"I was sitting in the guy’s vehicle; the guy kept telling me he has to get into the house to check out my furnace and heating sources and electrical. Then he tells me he could sell me a furnace to lower my heating bill and wants to see my hydro bill, oil bill, what I spent on wood pellets. I asked him about my hydro rebate he denies everything. Then Smith Falls Police shows up takes over. They charged this individual with among other things, operating without a peddlar’s license.

"The phone original # 613 446 6401 when you google it shows it is a medical centre in Rockland then again in Kanata but above the phone # V4271759440137 appeared. It is a bogus # along with bogus addresses. It must be noted they tried to get a licence to operate in Smiths Falls and were refused the next day after being charged."
