News release: North Bay, Ontario—The holidays are behind us, but you can still make a resolution to be good to your heart in 2016.

On Tuesday February 16th, the Heart & Stroke Foundation is offering a free workshop with information on heart-healthy living for people 50 years old and up.

February marks national Heart Month and Area Coordinator Julia Tignanelli says the event, called “A Fair of the Heart,” is a great opportunity to come and learn about the importance of heart health and ways we can make small but significant lifestyle changes that have a lasting impact. “People need easy-to-use, practical information that can be implemented to maintain health as we age. This afternoon session with offer some great insights and tips that can be incorporated into everyday life.” Admission is free, but donations to Heart & Stroke services and life-saving research will be welcome; healthy snacks will also be provided. “We are excited to commemorate Heart Month and offer this vital awareness and education to our community,” says Tignanelli.

The event will be held at The Empire, North Bay’s Landmark Retirement Residence, at 425 Fraser Street, on February 16th from 1:30pm to 4:00pm.

TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:

  • tools & resources available from the Heart & Stroke Foundation that you may not be aware of
  • simple ways to understand good fats vs bad fats
  • portion control guidelines you can take anywhere (using only your hand)
  • new easy ways to incorporate physical activity in your daily life, even with limited space, equipment and knowledge
