During the month of February 2017, Members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police stopped five people for Stunt Driving - Travelling at 50 km/hr. over the posted speed limit. The ages of those charged range from 20 years old to 71 years old.

The highest speed on the speed measuring devices during this time was 165 km/hr. in a posted 90 km/hr. zone. At that speed, a vehicle is travelling at 45.87 metres per second. That means the offending vehicle could cover the distance of a football field in 2.3 seconds. This leaves very little time for someone to perceive a hazard such as a moose or other motor vehicle. With the presence of wildlife on the highways in and around the Parry Sound area, the OPP urge motorists to take their time and slow down.

"Traffic Safety is everyone's responsibility, please drive safely" says Staff Sergeant Mike Gordon, West Parry Sound OPP Detachment Commander.

The OPP would like to remind the public that every person convicted of Stunt Driving is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both. Additionally, any person charged with Stunt Driving will have their vehicle towed and impounded for 7 days and their driver's licence will be suspended for 7 days.
