Team 5807 CANbotics

News release: Oshawa Ontario’s Durham Collage and UOIT was where the GTR East event was held, the first regional Team 5807 CANbotics competed in on their own.  Hosted by their parent team, World Champion and Chairman’s Hall of Fame Team 1114 Simbotics from St. Catherine’s Ontario.

Flying from the very first practice match continued to be the team’s best success throughout the competition.   With the luck of the draw not helping them throughout the round robin the team put up points but their different alliance partners didn’t give them enough to get into the higher positions to be an Alliance Captain for the playoffs.  There high flying ways and continues attempts to concur the elusive hang at the end of each match did catch the eye of Team 1325 Inverse Paradox from Peel Region who was an Alliance Captain and got to pick 2 teams to help them through the playoffs and Team 5807 was alighted to be one of those picks.  In the playoffs is where the team had its best individual and Alliance success.  The Alliance’s success came in the quarter finals where they won the series 2-0 in the best of 3 matches.  Team 5807’s suffocating defense allowed Alliance Capitan Team 1325 along with Team 1305 from North Bay to concentrate on offence and sweep the series.  In the semi’s the teams alliance met up with the top seeded alliance in the regional and the eventual winner of the event as they fell 0-2.  The winning alliance had to put up a world record score to put them out in the second round.  Team 5807 success came when alliance captain pushed them to continue to try and hang throughout the semi’s and finally in the semi’s came success.  They hung in both semi final matches and finally counting one in the second match.  The only rookie team and one of only 6 teams that hung successfully all weekend long out of the 50 team field.

Special thanks go out to Ontario Power Generation, Atlas Copco, Canadore College and Union Gas along with all our sponsors as without your support none of this is possible.

Through the excitement of the weekend the team got a few new families hooked on the great FIRST program and has the privilege of welcoming 3 new young ladies to the team for our next regional which is right here in North Bay March 23-26/2016.  Contact us on Facebook if you would like information or are interested in joining our Community Based Team.  We are proud of and the only team to have members from all 4 school boards and every high school in the area.
