The results of the North Bay Police Service’s Festive R.I.D.E. campaign are in.

Over the holiday season, officers conducted R.I.D.E. on 13 different occasions, representing a total of 2,004 vehicles stopped. One driver was charged with impaired.

The North Bay Police Service conducts its Festive R.I.D.E. campaign aimed at reducing impaired driving from the end of November to early January every year when holiday celebrations peak. However, motorists are advised that police conduct R.I.D.E. stops all year long.

Under section 253 of Canada’s Criminal Code, driving while impaired by alcohol or a drug is a criminal offense.

Meanwhile, during the final week of the Festive R.I.D.E program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) checked approximately 277 vehicles.  During these checks only one driver was given a Provincial Offence Notice for a Highway Traffic Act offence.

OPP would also like to remind motorists that just because the festive R.I.D.E. program is concluded, officers will still be continuing R.I.D.E. programs throughout the year.
