News release: North Bay, ON, November 26, 2015 – This morning community members joined The Empire staff, and the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Foundation, to celebrate the announcement of the returning Festival of Trees for the 2016 Christmas season, precisely one year from today.

“Over the years, our residents have shared their most heartwarming stories and many are about their memories of Christmas.  This inspired us to think of a way we could do something for them, and for our community, centred around the magic of the Christmas Spirit,” said Ariane Savard General Manager, The Empire. “In 2016 you will have a way to experience the magic of Christmas, while supporting healthcare for friends and family,” she added.

“The Festival of Trees was celebrated in North Bay until a decade ago.  Area residents loved the festival and it grew into an annual highly anticipated family event for children, parents and grandparents.  Over the years it raised thousands of dollars and thousands of smiles and memories.  It also produced hundreds of beautiful trees and created a winter wonderland that marked the beginning of the holiday season in North Bay,” shared Mike Anthony, Outreach Manager, The Empire.

Betty Silver, a Recreation Therapist working with Seniors at NBRHC says, “I work with senior patients to participate in meaningful activities that they enjoy, to help with their recovery.”  “I also help them with the reintegration process by becoming aware of what leisure resources are available in our community,” Silver added.

“We are delighted that the Festival of Trees will boost the Christmas spirit in our community and also have an impact on seniors’ care at the health centre by helping to purchase special low beds.  This is an example of how our community continues to have an impact on the health care available, close to home.” says Tammy Morison, President & CEO, NBRHC Foundation. “We recognize the challenges facing our hospital and our community, with the understanding that now, more than ever, it is important for our community to support its health care needs.”

Festival admission will be free! Our community can visit The Empire Festival of Trees and see the seasonal sights.  Area businesses and organizations will be invited to sponsor trees. The sponsors will then have an opportunity to bring their team/group together to decorate their tree.  Trees will be display for the duration of the festival at The Empire.  The public will have a chance to bid on their favourite tree throughout the Festival by an ongoing silent auction. The winning bidder takes the tree home in time to enjoy for the rest of the Christmas season.
