“Ignoring the issue won’t stop the violence and attempts to silence advocates can’t be tolerated in a democratic society.”

News release: The Nipissing-Timiskaming Federal NDP Electoral District Association supports workers’ right to speak out about violence affecting them in their workplace and calls on the government to do more to protect workers.

President of the Association, Kathleen Jodouin says, “Those who we trust to care for our sick and our injured are having to do their jobs at times in unsafe environments. These types of violent incidents will likely increase as the government continues to shift healthcare onto the private sector, focusing on the bottom line instead of healthy and safe facilities of care”.

The Association supports workers’ rights to free speech recognizing that until we start to engage in honest dialogue on the problem with all stakeholders, we won’t begin to see the necessary changes needed to keep workers and patients safe.

“Ignoring the issue won’t stop the violence and attempts to silence advocates can’t be tolerated in a democratic society” states Kathleen Jodouin. The government has a role to play in ensuring our healthcare facilities are safe environments for healthcare workers, so that they can focus on caring for our loved ones, not trying to fend off violent attacks."
