Literacy Nipissing has announced the release of the 3rd book in the Santa Series written by Dennis Chippa and illustrated by the art students of Widdifield Secondary School. It's called Crankpot, The Underpants Elf.

This book tells the story of an elf who has a very important job but feels underappreciated.

Betty – aka Crankpot – is cranky because the underwear she makes for the children aren’t as fun as toys.  Betty soon learns that children need the underwear she makes in order to enjoy winter activities.  This helps her to realize that her job is valuable and needed.  All Canadian kids know the value of being warm while outside in the winter and Betty soon learns this lesson too.

To commemorate the release of this book, the Council is hosting Elf-a-polozza at Widdifield Secondary School on Saturday November 18, from 1 – 4 p.m.   Children will have the chance to be an “Elf for a day.”

There will be games, crafts, snacks and even a visit from Santa.  The cost for this event is $10 per adult and all children are free.  Every child who attends will receive a copy of the book to help them get into the Christmas spirit.

All three books in the Santa series, including this book, will be available to purchase at Gulliver’s Book Store and at the Literacy Nipissing office at 347 Sherbrooke Street.
