Electronics and jewelry theft in Almaguin OPP report

Someone entered the residence and stole an electronic game console and a variety of electronics and some jewelry.

(PERRY TWP, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break enter and theft that occurred sometime between Thursday, November 10, 2016, and Saturday, November 12, 2016, to a Homeland Drive, Perry Township residence.

Unknown person(s) entered the residence and stole an electronic game console and a variety of electronics and some jewelry.  Police are continuing to investigate and any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this theft should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Friday, December 2, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is playing a hockey game against grade seven and eight students in the area at the Armour, Ryerson, and Burk’s Falls Arena.

The event is an annual one to raise money for United Way and this year the event will also support Push For Change.  Push For Change is a national awareness campaign to help end youth homelessness.  Joe Roberts, a former street youth turned successful entrepreneur began pushing a shopping cart 9,000 kilometers across Canada to raise awareness.  Funds raised during this game will be shared equally between this program and United Way. 

OPP would like to invite community members to come and watch the exciting game and support these two worthy charities.

                   (LAURIER TWP, ON) – On Friday, November 11, 2016, at approximately 6:00 p.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision on Chemical Road.

The single vehicle entered the ditch, causing significant damage to the truck.  Officers investigated the collision and subsequently the driver of the vehicle, Daniel GHEORGHIU, 42 of Ancaster Ontario was arrested and charged with care or control over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and Fail to have insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The driver was not injured in the collision.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, December 8, 2016, in Sundridge Ontario.

(STRONG TWP, ON) – On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at approximately 8:00 a.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 124. 

Police spoke to the driver and subsequently arrested and charged the driver, Craig McLean, 53 of Mulmur Township for the following offences:

• Possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marijuana over 39 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA)
• Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, January 26, 2017, in Sundridge Ontario.
