OPP officers were highly visible on our roadways this weekend in an effort to ensure the motoring public had a safe long weekend.  Amongst other charges, members of the West Parry Sound OPP Detachment laid 10 seatbelt related charges.

During the Easter Weekend Campaign from April 3, 2015 to April 6, 2015 the following seatbelt charges were laid:

·         5 Driver fail to wear seatbelt charges contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

·         4 Passenger fail to wear seatbelt charges contrary to the (HTA)

·         1 Child not properly secured contrary to the (HTA)

Seatbelts Save Lives

  • All Ontario drivers and passengers must wear a seatbelt in a properly adjusted and securely fastened manner.  It’s the law. Making sure your children are also secure in a properly installed child restraint is equally as important.  Wearing a seatbelt properly will dramatically increase your chance of surviving a motor vehicle collision.
  • If one person decides not to wear a seatbelt, restrained occupants are also at risk of serious injury because of this.  If you are in a collision there is a likelihood that the person not wearing their seatbelt will be tossed around in the car striking the other passengers.
  • Remember, it takes mere seconds to fasten your seat belt and it takes mere seconds to lose your life because you didn’t.
