News release: From January to March this school year, D.A.R.E. officer Constable Merv Shantz taught a total of 244 students in grade 5 (47 students), grade 6 (190 students) and grade 7 (seven students) from the following seven eight schools:
- Alliance French Immersion Public School, North Bay
- Saint Hubert Separate School, North Bay
- J.W. Trusler Public School, North Bay
- Our Lady of Fatima Separate School, North Bay
- M. T. Davidson Public School, Callander
- E.W. Norman Public School, North Bay
- Sunset Park Public School, North Bay
- King George Public School, North Bay
At D.A.R.E. graduation ceremonies to be held in school classrooms and gymnasiums from Tuesday March 22nd to Monday March 4th, Cst. Shantz will present special gifts to select essay winners, as well as D.A.R.E. certificates and t-shirts to all graduates.
The goal of the police officer-led eleven-lesson D.A.R.E. program is to help students develop strategies and confidence to make healthy decisions when faced with day-to-day problems. The program teaches children how to resist peer pressure and how to live productive drug- and violence-free lives.
