On Friday, December 23, 2016, at approximately 6:30 a.m. the Almaguin Highlands OPP were called to assist a motor vehicle which had gone into the ditch on Highway 11, just south of the Mountainview exit.

Police arrived at the location where the vehicle was in the ditch and spoke to the driver, Herbert Bigelow, 53 of North Bay and subsequently arrested and charged him with driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood.

Meanwhile, during the fifth week of the Festive R.I.D.E program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere), the Almaguin Highlands OPP checked approximately 530 vehicles.  As a result of these R.I.D.E. checks, one driver was charged with "class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by a qualified driver".

A second driver was charged with "drive – hand – held communication device".
