Drinking and hunting don't mix

They found the male's rifle in a brushed area where he had hidden it prior to police arrival

On November 17, members from the East Algoma OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Conservation Officers responded to a weapons complaint in Johnson Township near Desbarats on Highway 17. 

Police say shortly after 2:30 p.m., an intoxicated man was walking on Diamond Lake Road with a rifle in hand and not wearing hunter orange colours. 

Conservation Officers found the man and confirmed he had been consuming alcohol and was in possession of several containers of open liquor. They found the male's rifle in a brushed area where he had hidden it prior to police arrival.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher O'Brien, 58, from Sault Ste Marie was charged with: 

  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, and with
  • Being Intoxicated in Public Place,
