Update: a woman has come forward and offered to pay the balance of the bill for joey to have the surgery.

A local woman named Melanie Gingras wrote to BayToday this week about her dog Joey that needs surgery.
She said, "I am a single mother and I have a small Shih Tzu Maltese dog whom I've had for 8 years. He needs surgery and no-one will help me because of my financial situation. I am on ODSP and the surgery he needs is to repair a perennial hernia which I was quoted $1,500. I called all the pet funds credit cards for animal health and nothing. My vet sent me home with no hope unless I can come up with all cash. I've managed to pay for all vet issues/checkups and needles but this is heart-wrenching. I have a gofundme account and have raised $340 for his surgery.
"Joey has been my dog since he was a pup, 8 years to be exact. I got Joey for Brooklyn (my daughter). He has been diagnosed with a perinneal hernia which left untreated will cause death in 85% of all dogs.
"His hernia is located in his rectum, and his bowels can become trapped inside of his hernia. He is in pain and not very mobile. He has a very hard time having a bowel movement.
