Ditched car alerts police to impaired driver

On January 17 at 10 p.m., members of the Powassan Detachment of the OPP saw a motor vehicle in the ditch while patrolling Highway 11 near Purdon Line. 

Police spoke with the driver and requested that he undergo mandatory alcohol screening. The driver provided a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device and registered a "Fail". The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, Brendan Dale, 21, from North Bay, Ontario, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Dale was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. 

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 11, in North Bay.
