DISTURBANCE LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGE

(SPANISH, ON) – On January 24, 2015 at 11:10 p.m. officers from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Blind River received a call of a disturbance at a business on Highway 17 Spanish.  Officers attended the business and learned that a male had been causing problems with other customers and had left prior to police arrival.  While investigating the initial complaint, officers received another call of a vehicle in the ditch on Stolar Crescent in Spanish.  The officers arriving at the scene observed a vehicle stuck in the snowbank.  Through their investigation the driver was identified as the same person from the previous incident at the business.  The male was subsequently arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  As a result of these two incidents Kyle Guy MAIR, 32 years of age from Espanola has been charged with the following criminal offences.

-          Uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a) Criminal Code (Two counts)

-          Mischief under $5000.00, Section 430(4) Criminal Code

-          Resist peace officer, Section 129(a) Criminal Code

-          Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88 Criminal Code

-          Impaired operation, Section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code

-          Over 80mgs, Section 253 (1)(b) Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on February 5, 2015 to answer to the charges.
