Shirlene Condie-McVeigh President-Elect of the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Women’s League (CWL), presented cheques in the amount of $400 to Amelia Pierce and Marie Duffy, this year’s CWL Bursary student recipients, at the Thanksgiving Mass.

Amelia, daughter of John and Leah Pierce, graduated from École secondaire catholique Algonquin and is attending Wilfred Laurier University, Brantford Campus, in a four-year Bachelor of Arts Criminology Program with a combined Law Degree at Sussex University, United Kingdom.

Marie, daughter of Mike and Dawn-Marie Duffy, graduated from St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School and is working toward a four-year Bachelor of Architecture through the McEwan School of Architecture at Laurentian University.  Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, she will work toward a master's in architecture.

“We recognize the importance of investing in the youth of our community as they represent the future and life-blood of our faith,” explained Maudena Farnsworth, Pro-Cathedral CWL President.  “Our members wish Amelia and Marie blessings in their future endeavour.”

Each year, the Pro-Cathedral CWL awards up to two bursaries in the amount of $400 each to students entering first-year post-secondary education who have obtained reasonable academic achievement.  Applicants are daughters or sons of members of the Pro-Cathedral Catholic Women’s League.  Where the mother is deceased, consideration will be given to granddaughters or grandsons of a member in good standing.
