The Temiskaming OPP would like to invite you to their “Push for Change” event which is taking place on November 4, between 10 a.m. and noon, in the parking lot of Chartrand’s Your Independent Grocer, located at 55 Scott Street in New Liskeard.

The event will consist of teams from each organization competing by pushing OPP cruisers.  As well, OPP officers will be collecting food donations for the local food bank at the entrances and exits of the parking area.

The Temiskaming OPP in conjunction with Chartrand’s Your Independent Grocer, Temiskaming District Secondary School, Ecole Secondaire Catholique Sainte Marie, The Canadian Mental Health Association, The Salvation Army and Community Living Temiskaming South will be hosting this community event.

“I am very pleased to see our community pull together to have a little bit of fun while at the same time raising awareness about youth homelessness,” says Inspector Brent Cecchini, Detachment Commander of the Temiskaming OPP.  “We are looking forward to the initiative and the friendly competition this event is bringing to our community.”

Joe Roberts, the executive director of “The Push for Change,” experienced homelessness and addiction as a youth. His involvement with the OPP helped turn his life around and he shares a positive relationship with officers to this day.

Roberts is pushing a shopping cart across Canada to raise money and awareness for youth homelessness.  He is scheduled to arrive in the North East Region in the Parry Sound area in January of 2017.
