With hockey playoffs coming to a close, the North Bay Food Bank would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone it’s time to kick off the 2016-2017 Coach4Food campaign.

This will be the 11th year of the Coach4Food program, founded in North Bay, and officials at the Food Bank are very grateful for the continued partnership between the food bank, your North Bay Battalion and local hockey leagues in the fight against hunger.

“The Coach4Food program is consistently the largest contributor of donations to the food bank each year,” said Katharine Strang Chairperson of the North Bay Food Bank.

“We are very happy to see that our local teams and coaches continue to show community spirit by helping to stock our shelves and provide much needed food to those in need.”

Battalion team President Mike Griffin agrees.

“The Battalion is very pleased to continue being a part of this special community initiative.”

The award winning program was created by professional goaltending consultant Tom Hedican.

After 10 years of running the program he has stepped away from Coach4Food which he says was inspired by rock legend Bruce Springsteen and his work with food banks around the world.

Coach4Food has been endorsed by Springsteen and NHL coaches Ken Hitchcock and North Bay's Mike Yeo.

This summer Yeo, you just won a gold medal as an assistant coach with Team Canada at the World Championships,  will meet with local coaches who participated in last year's program.

The North Bay Food Bank is available to accept food and monetary donations year round.  The food bank is located at 1016 Fisher Street in North Bay and is open to serve clients Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  For more information, call the North Bay Food Bank at 705-495-3290.
