Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing – Timiskaming, has announced changes made to the New Building Canada Fund (NBCF) that he says will positively impact the people in our region.

“The addition of new categories eligible for funding such as tourism, culture, recreation, civic assets and municipal buildings will have a significant impact here in Nipissing - Timiskaming,” said Rota. “The federal government will enable the New Building Canada Fund to make greater investments in our local roads and highways, bridges, local community centres and arenas throughout the riding.“

A month after the Liberal government tabled Budget 2016, the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Amarjeet Sohi, moved ahead with his ambitious plan to invest in our country’s infrastructure to create growth and support the middle class. On Monday, April 25, 2016, Sohi made public his official letter to his Ontario counterpart, the Honourable Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, to start the process that will lead to the implementation of phase 1 of our government’s 10 year infrastructure plan.

“We believe that infrastructure is not an end in itself – it is the means with which we build a more prosperous, inclusive and sustainable country,” said Minister Sohi in his letter to Minister Duguid. “It goes beyond concrete and water pipes; it is what allows Canadians to get to work on time and return home to their families faster at night. It also helps people find shelter, and it provides facilities for kids to exercise, learn, and build the networks that will support them throughout their lives.”
