Canadore College is launching a brand-new employment readiness program for Aboriginal youth this month.

Funded in partnership with the Nipissing Innovation Fund, the program is free to Aboriginal youth aged 17 to 29 and taught by industry professionals. Participants will receive training and skills relevant to finding meaningful employment.

“Thanks to the gracious support of community partners, our First Peoples’ Centre has been able design a comprehensive pre-employment training package for Aboriginal youth. The program integrates standard workforce principles and traditional cultural concepts to boost the confidence of participants and help them find employment quickly.”

The program runs from September to December and is comprised of core workshops including workplace expectations, customer service, job shadowing, portfolio development, health and safety protocols, safeTALK, financial literacy and more.

Classes start with a Welcome Circle on September 17. There are still spots available – to register, contact Judy Manitowabi at 705.474.7600, ext. 5966.
