News release: Representatives from Canadore College returned to North Bay on Sunday after spending a week at T.A. Maryshow Community College (TAMCC) in St. George’s, Grenada, developing educational opportunities in environmental sustainability practices.

Canadore’s controller and project lead, Kim Watkins, and vice-president of student services, enrolment management, marketing and recruiting, Shawn Chorney, met with TAMCC executives and employees in a series of meetings and workshops.

“This is a truly wonderful opportunity for Canadore,” said Watkins. “With the Government of Grenada embarking on the development and implementation of a greener economy, including executing postsecondary strategies to support its goals, Canadore can make a big difference at the ground level.”

The 36-month project began in April 2014 with fellow school and contributor Cégep de la Gaspésie (Gaspé, Que.) that oversaw the development of comprehensive environmental sustainability practices and programming, including course curriculum design and syllabus development required to meet the requirements of the Grenada’s National Training Agency and ISO 14000 standards.

As a spinoff of the project, Canadore has been working with TAMCC to raise funds to help rebuild their Mirabeau Training Campus, which was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. This stand-alone campus is located in the centre of Grenada and is targeted to be the site for the new programs.
