Busy long weekend for area OPP officers

Officers investigated a total of 11 collisions, two involved motorcycles and resulted in serious injuries

Between August 2 and August 5,  OPP was out on patrol conducting traffic enforcement on roads, waterways, and trails.

A total of 77 charges were laid in the Nipissing West Detachment areas during this past weekend's traffic initiative.  There were no ''Move Over'' violations. 

Some of the charges include: 

  • seven moving violations
  • 52 speeding charges
  • two seatbelt charges
  • three impaired related offences
  • two charges under the Liquor Licence Act; and
  • one Small Vessel Regulations charge

Officers investigated a total of 11 collisions, two involved motorcycles and resulted in serious injuries. One person died as a result of a swimming mishap.

Meanwhile, a total of 80 charges were laid in the North Bay OPP Detachment area during this past weekend's traffic initiative. Some of the charges include:  

  • 1 - Fail to Move Over for Emergency Vehicle Charges
  • 2 - Moving violations
  • 62 - Speeding charges
  • 2 - Warn Range Suspensions
  • 4 - Liquor Licence Act charges

Over the entire North East Region, 828 charges (not including warn range suspensions) were laid by the OPP including:

  • 12 - Fail to Move Over for Emergency Vehicle Charges
  • 34 - Moving violations
  • 504 - Speeding charges
  • 7 - Stunt driving, Racing charges
  • 6 - Warn Range Suspensions
  • 38 - Liquor Licence Act charges
  • 9 - Impaired by Alcohol charges
  • 1 - Impaired by Drug charge
  • 13 - Marine offences
  • 7 - Drug Offence charges
  • 127 - Other Highway Traffic Act charges
