Asleep at the wheel

The officer spoke to the driver and determined that he had been drinking.

On September 6, shortly after 3:30 a.m., a member of the West Parry Sound OPP responded to a report that a vehicle had hit a guardrail and was blocking the southbound lane on Highway 400 in Seguin Township.

Police located the vehicle and saw the driver sleeping at the wheel. The officer spoke to the driver and determined that he had been drinking.  

As a result of the investigation, Jonas Pawis, 25, from Shawanaga First Nation, was arrested and charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle - over 80 mgs. of blood alcohol, and
  • Drive motor vehicle while ability impaired - alcohol, 

Pawis was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, on September 20.  

Meanwhile, on September 2 in Parry Sound shortly after 11 p.m., a vehicle backed out of a driveway striking a pedestrian. No injuries resulted.

Police located the vehicle and driver.

As a result of an investigation, Kylie Emerson, a 24-year-old female from Parry Sound was charged with "Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle." 

She was served a summons and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, on October 9, 2018.
