The Kidney Foundation of Canada will host the “Give the Gift of Life Walk” in 22 locations across the province in September to promote kidney health and organ donation awareness.

The second annual North Bay event will be held at Lee Park on Saturday, September 20th. Registration begins at 8 am, with the 4km walk on the Kate Pace Way commencing at 9 am.

The walks are extraordinary grass-roots, locally based events focused on uniting dialysis patients, transplant recipients, living donors, the medical and business communities, and the general public to celebrate life and create lasting community advocacy and long-term support for the Foundation’s mission.

Organ donation is a complex issue that affects thousands of Canadians. Each year, hundreds of people die because of a lack of organ and tissue donors while 4000 anxiously await the gift of life. This signature event provides us a tremendous opportunity to spread our kidney and organ donation message.

Kidney disease has a devastating impact, both physically and emotionally, on patients and their immediate families.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada was founded in 1964 and is the only national volunteer organization committed to reducing the burden of kidney disease through: promoting access to high quality healthcare; providing education and support; and increasing public awareness and commitment to advancing kidney health and organ donations.

Your involvement in the “Give the Gift of Life Walk” will help ensure that kidney patients continue to receive the many services provided by The Kidney Foundation of Canada. At the same time, those not directly impacted by kidney disease will learn about the growing need for more organ donors.

Pledge forms and walk information is available by calling Andrew, the local event coordinator, at 476-3715 or by visiting the Kidney Foundation web site at www.kidney.on.ca/walk.
