The YMCA hosted its 51st annual meeting this week and used that opportunity to launch its new strategic plan as well as elect its Board of Directors for the 2010 – 11 year. The new plan which will serve the YMCA through 2013 was developed around the theme of Building on our Strengths. The North Bay Y has been very proactive in its approach to growth and development in areas of facility upgrades with the new fitness centre RELAUNCH over the past year and strengthened our partnership with stakeholders to enhance existing programs. The new vision statement “Serving More People” speaks to the need for a more healthy active community and getting more people active. The new plan will focus on four main themes which include:

- Reaching out to children and youth

- Community outreach

- Facility development

- Target market groups

“By maximizing the human and physical resources that the Y has and creating a greater awareness of our programs and services, we feel that we can continue to make progress in these four theme areas”, stated CEO Kim Kanmacher. “Through diversity of programs and services combined with the focus on greater inclusion of key target areas, the Y can provide some very viable alternatives for all sectors of the community to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.”

The meeting also saw the Y elect its new Board of Directors with Dave Saad as Board Chair. Three new Directors were also elected. They included Johanna Brousseau, Gisele Lynch and Mike Croghan. “I am very pleased with what we have accomplished over the past two years”, said Past Chair, Barb Spencer. “We completed many of the projects that our last strategic plan identified and with the development of the new plan, the North Bay YMCA is in a good position to grow and development in an effective and efficient manner.”
