Alone at Night

Claim our bodies
Claim our rights
Take a Stand
Take Back the Night

Women young and old gathered in the Main Street Park tonight for support and strength and to send a message out that women will not be afraid when on the streets of North Bay.

The crowd heard from guest speakers who talked about the ripple effect violence has on everyone not just the victim and the hope for a day when there will be no need for shelters for battered women or men, and others let poetry speak for them.

A line from a poem that was recited before a march in Halifax on October 9, 1987, resonated in the air as the women prepared to march.

“The boy child learns to brave the night, the girl child learns to fear it.”
