As of 11:25AM EST Saturday 05 March 2011, Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa - West Nipissing - French River.

..Snow and blowing snow continuing today..

Snow at times heavy in association with a frontal system over Southern Ontario will continue this afternoon. A total accumulation of near 15 cm is likely by the time the snow begins to taper off early this evening. In addition, strong northerly winds gusting up to 50 km/h will usher in much colder air and will also result in low visibility in blowing snow particularly in exposed areas. Conditions should improve by this evening.

Travelling conditions may become quite hazardous as a result today. People should be prepared to adjust travel plans as required.

Environment Canada is monitoring this situation and will update this warning as necessary.

..Heavy snow and blowing snow threatening today..

Snow at times heavy is expected north of a frontal system currently extending from Southern Michigan to lake Nipissing. Accumulations of up to 15 cm is likely by the time the snow begins to taper off early this evening. In addition strong northerly winds ushering in much colder air will also result in very low visibility in blowing snow in exposed areas. Conditions should improve by this evening.

Travelling conditions may become quite hazardous as a result on today. People should be prepared to adjust travel plans as required.

As of 3:53PM EST Friday 04 March 2011, Environment Canada upgraed the winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa - West Nipissing - French River.

..Heavy snow and blowing snow threatening Saturday..

An area of light to moderate snow is currently affecting the area giving a few centimetres. The snow should taper off this evening before a more significant low pressure area from Texas brings significant amounts of snow starting overnight as it moves towards Southern Ontario. Snow amounts of 15 to 20 cm are likely with this storm. In addition strong northerly winds ushering in much colder air will also result in very low visibility in blowing snow in exposed areas. There is also a risk of freezing rain overnight. Conditions should improve by Saturday evening.

Travelling conditions may become quite hazardous as a result on Saturday. People should be prepared to adjust travel plans as required.

As of 5:10 AM EST Friday 04 March 2011, Environment Canada issued the following Winter storm watch for North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa - West Nipissing - French River.

..Heavy snow and blowing snow threatening Saturday..

A cold front will move across Northeastern Ontario this evening bringing some snow or a wet snow-rain mix with it before stalling just to the south over Central Lake Huron and Georgian Bay overnight. A low pressure area from Texas may turn into a winter storm as it moves up along the line of the front on Saturday.

Significant amounts of snow of 15 cm or more are possible with this storm. In addition strong northerly winds ushering in much colder air will also result in very low visibility in blowing snow in exposed areas. There is also a risk of freezing rain near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, which will be closest to the track of the storm centre.

Travelling conditions may become quite hazardous as a result on Saturday. People should be prepared to adjust travel plans as required.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation and will issue warnings as necessary later today or tonight.
