Wind continues to chill out

Windy winter days seem so much colder, though the air temperature may be exactly the same, due to an effect called the wind chill factor. The greater the wind speed, the faster people lose body heat.

And the wind chill can make a fairly moderate winter day as cold as one with much lower temperatures—sometimes dangerously so.
That will be the case in the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa today and tonight.
Here is the latest wind chill warning issued this morning by Environment Canada:

This is a warning that extreme wind chill conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions.

A pool of bitterly cold Arctic air remains entrenched through the regions courtesy of a strong Arctic high over far northwestern Ontario.

Winds of 15 to 25 km/h will generate extreme wind chill values of minus 40 to minus 50 across the district. Winds currently are very light over areas near and north of Lake Superior early this Morning. However as the winds pick up to about 15 km/h this morning. Extreme wind chills will once again develop later this morning.

Extreme caution is advised when being outdoors as exposed skin can freeze in as little as two to five minutes.
