There have been no shortage of voices taking part in the consultation to determine the future of the downtown waterfront area of North Bay. Over the past couple months, the city has been working with consultants to engage the public in creative a cohesive vision and it is slowly coming to fruition.

With over 600 responses so far, the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan survey has far exceeded the number of participants, says the city’s Communications and Strategic Development Officer, Jaclyn Bucik said.

“We didn’t have a set goal for the survey responses,” Bucik said, “They survey was one of several tools used to receive input from the public about the downtown waterfront. Receiving over 600 responses was significantly greater than expected and demonstrates the level of interest from our community on this initiative.”

This survey, which can be found here, is open for participation until August 19 and is another component to the Mast Plan process following the public engagement session with consultants at BrookMcIlroy the end of June this year.

During this session, members of the public worked in groups to discuss what they believed the downtown waterfront meant to them, how it should be best used and how to achieve those goals.

Manager of Planning Services, Beverly Hillier said the public input was incredible and was glad to see an arrangement of ages and groups to give a wide variety of perspectives.

Bucik said that session, along with the survey results and research will be used together to help prepare concepts for the downtown waterfront that will be brought forward for further public consultation later this fall.

Before then, the city will facilitate addition opportunities for the public to share comments and ideas as they work toward the development of the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan on August 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market.

Additional information on the Master Plan can be found here
