What to do with that Christmas tree?

Now that Santa is finished with your tree, it's time to say adios!

So all that time you spent trudging through the bush to bond with the kids and get a real tree for Christmas, or the time spent at a parking lot that sells trees and lets you off the hook...

After hours decorating it, putting presents under it and enjoying that "outdoorsy smell", it's now taking up valuable space in your living room.

Now you need to get rid of it.

Long gone are the days when you could drag it to the end of your driveway and have the city pick it up with your regular garbage...that service suffered the same fate as your tree...it was axed.

Now, after all the enjoyment it gave you over the holidays, it's up to you to give the tree the future it deserves...as compost...and you'll have to be the person responsible for giving it a new home...at the Public Works Yard.

The Christmas tree collection site opens tomorrow at 1399 Franklin Street....but there's still work to be done.

All ornaments, tinsel, and lights must be removed from the tree before bringing it to the drop-off location.

The drop-off site will be open from January 3 to 16, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And one small gift from the City to you...there is no charge for drop-off.
