What a drag

The smell of burning rubber filled the air at Jack Garland Airport this weekend as cars ripped down the runway at the Rotary Club of Nipissing’s 7th annual King of the Hill Dragway event.

The smell of burning rubber filled the air at Jack Garland Airport this weekend as cars ripped down the runway at the Rotary Club of Nipissing’s 7th annual King of the Hill Dragway event.

The event featured an array of classes including Super Pro, Semi Pro, Street, Junior Dragster, Motorcycle and Snowmobile all vying for the $45,000 worth of prizes.

Event chair Murray Green is pleased with how the event came together this year and says it takes tremendous community support and the grace of Mother Nature to have the King of the Hill Dragway come off without a hitch.

“It’s a year round effort for this event, we have a core committee of probably 20 to 25 people who work pretty well year round and on this particular weekend we have over 150 volunteers,” he explains.

“The event has been quite successful as we have a record number of cars registered again ... whether we make any money or not remains to be seen but the event is going quite well.”
