“Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, and those with loved ones affected,” West Nipissing Mayor Joanne Savage explained in a recent statement.

The municipality has joined communities and countries throughout the world to show its support for Ukraine and have illuminated the West Nipissing Power Generation Plant blue and yellow—the colours of the Ukrainian flag—as a sign of solidarity.

Lighting the power plant “is a symbolic way for our municipality to spread awareness and support for important causes,” and on February 28, those blue and yellow colours shone bright, “to demonstrate West Nipissing’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people, near and far,” Mayor Savage said.

The mayor is encouraged all West Nipissing residents to illuminate and decorate their homes and businesses in blue and yellow as well, ideally by this Friday, March 4th.

The lights and decoration will serve as “a symbol of the community’s support.”
