West Nipissing Police find drugs and fake cash

Between March 13th to April 05, 2015, the West Nipissing Police Service responded to 432 calls for service.

Among those were 67 Police Assistance calls, 45 9-1-1 calls, 12 Thefts, 7 Drug Offences, 5 Frauds, 4 Family Disputes, 3 Threats, 3 Assaults, 2 Domestic disputes, 2 Mischief calls and 1 Sexual Assault

In mid March the West Nipissing Police conducted a traffic stop in relation to a drug investigation.  The driver was arrested and upon a search of his person, suspected marijuana was located.

The investigation continued and upon receiving consent from the suspect, another vehicle was searched as well as his residence.  In total, more than $7500 worth of marijuana was seized as well as $4200 of hash oil, a large amount of Canadian currency, cell phones and 1 digital scale.

The 65-year-old accused was charged with 2 counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and 1 count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

He was later released on a Promise to Appear.

Counterfeit 100's

On March 25th, the West Nipissing Police initiated an investigation regarding counterfeit US $100 bills which had been distributed throughout the community.

The information received was that someone was attending various businesses and buying items with fake US $100 bills.

In total 16 bills had been used for purchasing items ranging from cosmetics, perfumes, men’s hair care products, to food at different restaurants.

Initially the identity of the suspect was unknown but video footage showed police what he looked like.

On March 27th, the Greater Sudbury Police Service made an arrest when the suspect attempted to return items at the Sturgeon Falls Rexall, where he made the initial purchase. 

24-year-old Felly Lodji of Sudbury was charged with numerous counts of Theft, Fraud and Uttering Counterfeit Money.

Other charges are pending after more businesses contacted the police regarding this type of incidents.
