The provinces best will be converging on West Ferris arena today for the start of the 2018  Ontario Hockey Federation Championships.

The event begins with an NHL style banquet which will take place at the Best Western Thursday night where all five teams will celebrate their achievements by enjoying a dinner with teammates and families while being motivated by guest speaker Darren Turcotte, former NHLer and coach of the Nipissing Lakers Women’s Hockey team.

The games will start on Friday and finish up on Sunday.

OHF’s only happen once every two years, and the last time such an event came to the city was back in 1997, when the major bantam AAA’s hosted the Kobe Cup.

The Trappers will be joined by qualifying teams from the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario (ALLIANCE), Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA), and Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

Marc Long is the Trappers head coach.  He says it has been a lot of work that is coming to reality this weekend.

"These kids have been working so hard and we won NOHA's a year ago and we started working on this and we realized it was in the NOHA district this year and just an opportunity for these kids to be treated like NHLers and it has been a lot of hard work," said Long.

"Our managers have been doing countless hours. It is going to be a great opportunity for the kids and the city of North Bay to host such a big event."

Tickets can be purchased at the door at the West Ferris Arena for $10 a day or a $ 25-weekend pass.  Children under 10 are FREE.

The team would like to thank all sponsors and volunteers who have made this weekend possible. Your time and donations are greatly appreciated!

The team consists of Owen Heroux, Jackson Curran, Jacob Jutras, Rowyn St. Louis, Cayden Hill, Mason Rotondo, Preston Sequin Hutchison, Noah Dugas, Nick Corbeil, Cameron Popp, Wyatt Porter, Owen Head, Jackson Culin, Simon Toupin, Max Gelinas, Briir Long, Hudson Prisco Duquette.

The team is coached by Marc Long, Dave Dugas, Scott Curran, Roch St. Louis and team managers Kara Rotondo and Chantal Popp.
