Councillor Dave Mendicino, members of the Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound Inc. and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) welcomed North Bay’s latest business into operation with a $15,000 cheque Tuesday.

Kevin Truchon, owner/operator of Homewise Property Maintenance, thought he could turn the fact that people are working longer hours with less time to devote to home maintenance into his advantage and develop a business and applied to the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. Homewise Property Maintenance is a general maintenance business designed to assist folks in completing their time consuming household chores and the foundation agreed there was potential and granted Truchon the money to start.

Mendicino says it is next to impossible these days to start a business without money and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) can help.

“That’s why the program is attractive,” he says.

“Because it gives them what they need to start up.”

CYBF is a national charity that provides youth, aged 18-34, who have a great business idea but are unable to access funds through other traditional sources, with the start-up financing.

Mendicino also says the program isn’t just about the start up funds; it also has a mentoring and business resources component to support the new business owner.
