An organization that virtually sprang up out of nowhere five years ago and is now providing the vision for rail lands redevelopment has won a major award from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority.

Community Waterfront Friends was presented with the Dorothy Walford Memorial Award by the authority at a ceremony last night at Churchill’s.

South River teen Alex Parker was presented with the Ward Smith Environmental Youth Award at the same ceremony.

The Dorothy Walford award, named in memory of a local environmentalist, is presented to an individual group for involvement in a worthy environmental project.
