On Wednesday Discovery Routes Trails Organization hosted the ‘Celebration of Trails’ event out at the Callander Community Centre.

The group hosted a variety of activities geared towards local trail enthusiasts with the highlight of participating in a province wide effort to break the existing Guinness World Record for most people walking 1 km simultaneously.

The event hosted by Green Communities Canada and supported by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion, was focused on creating a culture of walking while educating Ontarians about the benefits of walking. Students of MT Davidson Public School, as well as communities across the region rose to the occasion and joined in.

Jennifer McCourt, Program Manager, Discovery Routes says participation in the event was an excellent opportunity for folks to become more involved in the trails community and get a snapshot of the many trail initiatives that are underway across the region.
