Each year the Mattawa Voyageur Days has attracted thousands of people to our town for the four-day celebration. This year marks the tenth anniversary of this regional festival and co–chairs Jacques Begin and Lucie Desrochers promise that it will be bigger and better than ever.

"We are so excited we can hardly wait," said Desrochers as she printed out the list of entertainers they are considering for this year’s festival.

"The quality of entertainment we have booked has been second to none! This year the public will have input on the bands that they want returning for our tenth anniversary," said Begin

The public can vote on the bands they want to hear during the twelve hours of classic rock music during the 12 to 12 Rock Where the Rivers Meet on Saturday, July 28, 2007 and on their three favorite country artists for the New Country Rock evening on Friday, July 27, 2007.

Begin explained how the voting will work. Rogers Radio Broadcasting will over a period of time, collect votes on their station web sites. The details are all being worked out to ensure that each individual only gets one vote. The voting dates will be announced on your favorite local radio station.

The initial list is long and all top notch bands. These include: Trooper, Toronto, Headpins, Helix, April Wine, Five Man Electrical Band, Loverboy, Honeymoon Suite, The Goodbrothers, Staggered Crossings, Arcand Band, Hennesey, Prism, Platinum Blonde, High Holy Days, Glass Tiger, Rick Emmett, Kim Mitchell, Ray Lyle, Lighthouse, Alannah Myles, David Wilcox, Blue Oyster Cult, Carl Dixon, Moxy, Goddo, Chilliwack, Teenage Head, The Kings, The Stampeders, Dr. Hook, Lee Aaron and Sweeney Todd.

This list will be narrowed down and during a playoff week the local radio stations will play the short lists music and hold another vote for the final eight.

The same will be done for the country performers. The public can choose from amongst the following list: Farmers Daughter, Jason McCoy, Prairie Oyster, Diane Chase, Michelle Wright, Ennis Sisters, Charlie Major, Jimmy Rankin, Lisa Brokop, Julian Austin, Kilt, The Immigrants, The Irish Descendants, Brad Johner, the Wilkinsons, Hart Rouge, Chuck Labelle and Robert Paquette. The top three will be invited to perform at Explorers Point.

" We are the only festival to have consistently provided quality entertainment. All of the performers have enjoyed their stay in Mattawa and all enjoy coming back. We want people to have fun with this," said Begin.

The Mattawa Recorder will also run a ballot for people who cannot vote on the web sites.

"We will try to get what people want but it’ll depend on availability and costs," cautioned Begin.

No matter what the results of the vote is, Voyageur Days 2007 will feature the best of nine years of fantastic entertainment.

To make sure that no one misses out on the Voyageur Days Weekend July 26-29 the committee is starting to sell wristbands late November. The wristbands will still sell at the traditional price of $20 each.

"They’ll make a great stocking stuffer," said Lucie Desrochers.
