Voodoos late push sinks Rapids

Voodoos score three unanswered third period goals for the home win.

POWASSAN, ON - The Powassan Voodoos scored three unanswered third period goals en route to a 5-2 win over the visiting French River Rapids at the Powassan Sportsplex on Friday night. 

Alex Little led the way for the Voodoos with 1 goal and 2 assists, while Ryan Patrick contributed 1 goal and 1 assist. 

Former North Bay Trapper and Callander product Nolan Masson had 1 goal and 1 assist for the Rapids.  

After a scoreless opening frame, the Voodoos got to work on an early second period power play as Alex Little ripped a shot from the blue line through traffic and by Rapids starter Elijah Grant at 5:24.  

The Rapids answered back on a turnover in the Voodoos zone and Dominic Bzdyl beat Tyson Wilcox on a back door pass from Nolan Masson at 9:07. 

Just over two minutes later, the Voodoos capitalized on a turnover during a Rapids power play as Alex Little tipped a puck to Tucker Shields who beat Grant just past the midway point of the second at 9:36.

Another turnover at the blue line and the Rapids connected as Nolan Masson beat Voodoos starter Tyson Wilcox to make it 2-2 only 45 seconds into the final frame. 

Voodoos restored the lead as Dylan McElhinny fed Ryan Patrick and his quick shot slipped by Brady Dyer who replaced Grant after the Voodoos second tally at 8:11. 

The Voodoos made it 4-2 on a nice feed coming around the net, Cameron Lemcke fed Chase Thompson at 15:18 on a power play. 

Late in the third, Zach Turner was able to walk into the slot and his backhand beat Dyer for the 5-2 lead at 17:52 to round out the scoring.  

Voodoos starter Tyson Wilcox had a solid performance making 29 saves in the victory while making a couple of highlight-reel saves for the home squad. 

The win improves the Voodoos record to 33-18-1-2 while the Rapids drop to 9-43-1-1.
