The Powassan Voodoos added another young blueliner to their lineup with the signing of left hand shot defenceman Ben Danielsen from the Whitby Wildcats AAA hockey program, the club announced Thursday.

Danielsen brings youth and skill to the Voodoos roster. He describes himself as a smooth skating defender that brings versatility to the lineup.

"I chose Powassan because I felt it would give me the best chance to develop myself as a hockey player," noted Danielsen, the 2004 birth-year defenceman.

"I also love to win and the club has made it a priority to bring home a championship this season which excites me.

"After not playing last season due to COVID-19 restrictions I’m most looking to just play competitive hockey games again. I’ve also heard great things about the fan base and looking forward to playing in front of them."

Mike Mackley, VP of Hockey Operations, identified Danielsen early in the summertime. Despite other junior hockey options closer to home, Danielsen chose the Voodoos.

"Ben is an exciting player, he’s a strong skater and has impressive skilled elements to his game," noted Mackley.

"He plays the game with an edge and can generate offence from the back end.

"Ben’s ability to play in various situations should allow him to make an immediate impact in the league."

The 5'10", 170 defenceman will join the rest of his teammates on September 4 for the start of Voodoos main training camp in Powassan.
