Volleyball Canada and the Vision Volleyball Club are co-hosting the NORCECA (North America, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) beach volleyball tour in North Bay.

Play got underway at 10 this morning as 32 teams from as far as Central America are gathering at the Canor Molson Sand Centre downtown by the bus depot.

This is the first and only Canadian stop for the tour.

“The real great vantage point will be the hill, that’s why we put the two courts in front of the hill, we figure we can fit 400 or 500 people on the hill comfortably, it’s a nice slope and you can see all the courts in operation at once so we have more room than we had last year for spectators so we are excited,” said organizer Amadeo Bernardi.

Tickets for the event can be picked up on site or at Skater’s Edge (Fisher St.) and The Boat (Memorial Drive).

You can also purchase tickets online at www.vsecanada.com

“Being that we are downtown I hope that’s a great draw and a great thing for downtown North Bay,” said Bernardi.

NORCECA is a not-for-profit organization that manages volleyball activities throughout North and Central America and the Caribbean. Thirty-five countries of the International Volleyball Federation are represented in this organization.

NORCECA is responsible for Olympic and World Championship qualification tournaments and continental championships for both men, women, indoor and beach volleyball.

Vision Volleyball Club of North Bay is a local not-for-profit competitive youth volleyball club.

It is sanctioned by the Ontario Volleyball Association. For more information on Vision Volleyball visit www.visionvolleyball.ca
